Biography

Dan Zobel is an established wood turner, furniture maker, and cabinet maker from Pennsylvania.  He received his associates of the arts in fine woodworking in 2009 from Bucks County Community College under the tutelage of Mark Sfirri and subsequently his BFA in woodworking and furniture design in 2012 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania under Alphonse Mattia and Steve Loar. 

After severa;l years in the manufacturing industry working on high end conference tables and project management, he is currently the General Manager of a custom millwork and furniture manufacturer in Philadelphia, Edgewood Made.  In addition to being a maker and a manager, Dan enjoys leading workshops and demonstrations on woodturning techniques.

Dan’s work has been exhibited reionally, nationally and internationally through organizations like New Hope Arts, the American Association of Woodturners, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and the Korean Furniture Society.

His work plays on exploring ways of manipulating traditional woodturning forms into more sculptural and embellished objects.  While he always enjoys the ability to use a hand crafted utilitarian bowl or woodenware, he enjoys the playful nature of manipulating wood turned objects.

Dan currently serves as on the board of trustees for the Museum for Art in Wood as well as the AAW Professional Outreach Program committee. He also provides consulting services for woodturning collectors and auction houses regarding the historical importance and value of artworks considered for purchase or offered at auction.
